VB Mario Land, an unreleased Virtual Boy title revealed at CES in 1995, took full advantage of the Virtual Boy’s power with 3D and Mode 7-esque effects. The prototype played as a 2D platforming game similar to Super Mario Bros., but with the ability to navigate the depth of the level by moving towards or away from the background. A version of Mario Bros. Arcade served as a minigame after the one-level demo ended, which eventually evolved into the Virtual Boy launch title Mario Clash.
